Biodiversity Conservation

Sustainable use of medicinal and indigenous food plants in Busoga region of Eastern Uganda for the promotion biodiversity conservation for improvement in rural livelihoods.

Rainwater harvesting,integrated agro-aquaculture and small-scale irrigation.

Rainwater harvesting is the practice of collecting rainwater on situ or from catchments (run-off) and storing it where it will be utilized. It is a relatively inexpensive way of providing safe water to communities. There is considerable potential for water harvesting as a localized means of proving access to water. The potential benefits include the water being potable without boiling, reducing pressure on fuel sources (for extraction – pumping) and cost effectiveness.Integrated agriculture-aquaculture (agro-aquaculture) system contributes to increased farm efficiency and sustainability. Integrated agro-aquaculture has great potential to contribute towards food and nutritional security in Uganda by allowing farmers to produce fish, which is highly nutritious to augment carbohydrate rich staple diets and intensifying crop production and reducing agricultural production risk through better farm water and nutrient management.

Livestock production systems.

Promotion of the production of local poultry using the locally available materials as sources of feeds. This is due to the fact that killer diseases such as New Casstle do not allow rural farmers keep the exotic breeds since there are not resistant to such infections.Small ruminats ( goats and sheep), pigs and dairy animal production are other sectors which are in our minds and need support and technology.

Apiary - bee keeping is one area with all the potential to improve livelihoods of mankind in rural Africa. We are promoters of bee keeping and utilisation of the products therefrom. We do understand the value of integrating apiary in an agrarian system like increased crop yiels per hectarage as a result of improved polination in the fields.

Ecotourism

There is power in sustainable tourism to contribute to peace, harmony, respect and tolerance between people and for their own national, economic, environemtal and social /cultural objectives. We find it great to have people from allover the world to come to Uganda, stay in a village, share with rural communities- the culture, economic and family values! The baseline is rural transformation. Uganda has been described as the pearl of Africa ( Winston ChurchHill), what an abundance of nature's gifts to admire, from the microfauna and flora to the largest of mammals.
